A Brief History

The building which now holds Grand River Community Chapel opened its doors and held worship for the first time in November of 1891, under the name of Grand River United Church of Christ. After many years of being a beacon of light to the village of Grand River, the congregation disbanded, leaving the few faithful to continue to care for the building. In 2009, those faithful bestowed this property to Leroy Community Chapel so that once again the Word of God would be a light to the Grand River community.

It is the mission of Leroy Community Chapel to see the Gospel of grace reach all of Northeast Ohio. We believe that God has established the Church as His instrument of change in the world, and as such we want to see healthy local churches planted in as many neighborhoods and communities as possible. We believe communities are renewed and built as the Word of God changes people’s lives and fills them with joy and deep satisfaction. After many years of prayer and a willingness to take a risk, God gave us this historic church building in the village of Grand River at the end of 2009. The Leroy Community Chapel leadership stands behind the work in Grand River as a support for its success and in partnership to love Northeast Ohio with the love of Christ.
